Newby & Padley Optometrists was founded in 1991 by Jenny Padley (nee Newby) Bsc (hons)M.C.Optom and John Padley Bsc (hons)M.C.Optom . Both studied Optometry at Aston University and both had Manx connections.
After gaining membership of College of Optometrists they continued to work in large Optical practices in the East Midlands and Warwickshire areas.
Born and educated in the Isle of Man Jenny came ‘home’ in 1990 and took over the running of 2 existing practices in Port Erin and Peel under the ‘Jennifer Newby Opticians’ name.
John spent many summers from the age of 7 on the Isle of Man and needed little encouragement to settle back on the island. He became principle optometrist at one of the larger corporate opticians on the island.
A little over 12 months and a ski accident later, John was required to help run Jennifer Newby Opticians. When the leg was fixed they opened up a third practice in Onchan. Jennifer Newby Opticians became Newby & Padley Optometrists. John still has a passion for skiing, Jenny is not quite so keen.
Over the years, Jenny & John have worked to regularly modernise and update the practices and have invested in some of the latest technology available to ensure eye examinations are both advanced and thorough.
They share their vision for exceptional eye care with optometrist Robert Daughen, who also studied Optometry at Aston University.
In 2017 the practices were consolidated, incorporating the Peel patients into the Onchan practice. Peel was only open on 2 days and the consolidation has since allowed further investment in the Onchan practice which is open 6 days a week.
Newby & Padley pride themselves on being one of the few truly independent practices on the island, giving them freedom to establish their own identity and order products from any optical supplier.
